Welcoming Spring and Celebrating St Patrick’s Day

As the first signs of spring began to bloom, our residents and team came together to celebrate the changing season and the joy of St Patrick’s Day. Yarnley House was filled with laughter, creativity, and community spirit as we enjoyed a range of themed activities designed to bring everyone together. From lively quizzes to arts and crafts, there was something for everyone to take part in and enjoy.
The celebrations included a St Patrick’s Day quiz, where residents put their knowledge to the test with questions about Irish traditions, history, and culture. Many got into the spirit by dressing in green and sharing stories about their own Irish connections. For those who love getting creative, we set up painting and jewellery-making stations and residents designed their own St Patrick’s Day-inspired artwork and accessories. Music played a big part in the festivities, with traditional Irish songs bringing a lovely atmosphere to the home.

To round up the celebrations, we did some themed baking. Residents got to work baking cookies for everybody to enjoy with some afternoon tea. This is one of our residents' favourite activities and with the delicious treat to enjoy afterwards, we can see why!
Alongside the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, we also took the opportunity to embrace the arrival of spring. Residents enjoyed time outside in the sunshine, admiring the daffodils and fresh spring blooms in the garden while decorating gingerbread cookies. These moments outdoors brought smiles to everyone’s faces and were a wonderful way to welcome the warmer weather.
This week was particularly special as we also had the honour of celebrating one of our resident’s birthday. What made it even more memorable was that she was the very first person to move into our home, making it a truly sentimental occasion. Family, friends, and staff gathered to mark the day with cake, music, and plenty of happy memories.

Finalising the week's events, we welcomed Ringwood Carers Group, led by Roger Gregory, on 18th March. They enjoyed a fascinating talk from a retired Ringwood police officer, who shared stories from his time on the force. Guests and residents alike listened with great interest and later gathered in the Bistro for refreshments and conversation.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to host our next quiz and bingo night on 4th April at 6 pm. We hope to see many of you there for another evening of fun and friendly competition!
We also have a regular Dementia Café, which runs every two weeks on a Thursday from 2–4 pm. It provides a comforting space for residents and visitors to connect over tea and cake, offering dementia support and companionship in a relaxed setting.
