Summer Sports Fun at Yarnley House

With schools on their summer holidays and sports days in full swing across the country, residents at Yarnley House decided to join in the fun in our own unique way. This year, we hosted our very own sports day, but with a twist to make sure everyone could take part.

The highlight of the afternoon was our seated football session, which quickly proved to be a crowd-pleaser. Chairs were carefully arranged in our lounge to create the perfect ‘pitch’ and our residents were very keen to get stuck in. In their teams, residents used pool noodles to hit the balloons from one 'goal' to the other. It didn’t take long for our competitive spirits to shine through, and friendly rivalries soon developed, all in the name of good fun!

Our residents gave it their all, proving their determination and thorough enjoyment. The atmosphere was warm and supportive, with our team cheering from the sidelines and plenty of laughter from residents. Of course, no sports day would be complete without some well-earned rewards. At the end of the session, our ladies proudly held up their trophies. The smiles on their faces said it all and it was truly a day to remember.

Events like this are a wonderful reminder of how important it is to create opportunities for residents to stay active, social and engaged. Tailoring common activities to suit all abilities not only encourages movement but also sparks joy and laughter, helping to make every day feel special. We’re already looking forward to planning our next big event at Yarnley House, and who knows, maybe a rematch on the soft-seated football pitch will be in order!
