What We’ve Been Up to in February

This month, we have been busy with several exciting events, including Burns Night, a pamper day, a baking morning and a community quiz that raised money for Make-a-Wish.

Our Burns Night celebrations began with a traditional Burns Supper, featuring the much-loved haggis, neeps, and tatties, all prepared by our talented kitchen team. Residents enjoyed a heartfelt recital of Robert Burns' poetry, including the famous Address to a Haggis, before raising a toast with a wee dram or a glass of Irn-Bru. Scottish music played throughout the evening, creating a lively and nostalgic atmosphere throughout our home. It was a truly special occasion, allowing our residents to get involved with and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Scotland.

As part of our commitment to resident well-being, we also organised a pamper day and jewellery-making group to offer relaxation and self-care. Both ladies and gentlemen enjoyed soothing hand massages, nail treatments, and gentle aromatherapy which created a calm and peaceful environment and had them leaving with a profound sense of confidence. This was a wonderful opportunity for residents to unwind, feel pampered, and enjoy some one-on-one time with our caring team.

One of our residents' favourite activities is baking, as it not only gives them a chance to work together and reminisce on their favourite treats from throughout their lives but also is something delicious to eat afterwards! This month, we focussed on making cookies which were enjoyed by all.

The celebrations didn’t end there—our community quiz night was another fantastic highlight. It was a great turnout, including residents, staff, and 37 members of the local community and was filled with fun and friendly competition. They got into teams and put their knowledge to the test across a range of categories, with plenty of laughter along the way. We also raised an incredible £335 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping to grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. This achievement was a testament to the generosity and community spirit of everyone involved, and we couldn’t be prouder.

These events not only provided joy and social interaction for our residents but also strengthened our connection with the wider community. At the heart of our care home in the New Forest is the belief that life should be filled with meaningful moments, and occasions like these remind us just how special those moments can be.

We look forward to planning more activities in the coming months, continuing to create a warm, engaging, and supportive environment for our residents and the wider community.
